Additional information from the book "Stealth Raiders" - personal letters from Lionel have been given to the Australian War Memorial, and they are held in file 2DRL/0213

WW1

The details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by Lucas Jordan, published 2017, refer to pages 180+181, 266 & 281. Prior to the war he was a compositor of Marrickville NSW. He enlisted 23rd May 1915 aged 26 years. The front page of this record suggests he enlisted with the 20th Infantry Battalion, but during the period of this record he was serving with the 56th Infantry Battalion, and had been promoted to the rank of Sergeant. The book is scant on details of this member at the end of the war, only to say that he DOI, died of injuries 18th Feb 1920. It is possible that he died in Australia after being medically evacuated, or probably died in the UK of the war injuries. May he Rest in Peace - Lest we Forget.
