Son of William Vary and Elizabeth Vary nee Bailey of Saltwater Creek Road, Maryborough, QLD.
Brother of Kenneth William Vary who returned to Australia having served with the 41st Battalion and working in London as a munitions worker.
Prior to enlisting Robert has served in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve
