Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Military Medal

'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. On the 25th May, 1918, in the BOIS L'ABBE, near AMIENS, this man displayed great bravery while acting as a stretcher bearer during the intense bombardment of the WOOD and our positions with gas shell and high explosives. Not only once but many times he rendered great assistance in carrying wounded from the advanced positions through the WOOD to the RA.A.P., all the while being subjected to very heavy shell fire, and owing to the strong concentration of gas this work had to be performed while wearing a gas mask. By his gallant conduct and devotion to duty Private TURNER, despite the greatest difficulties, undoubtedly saved many valuable lives, and set a splendid example of courage to his comrades.'
