Charles arrived on Gallipoli on 6 August 1915 and suffered a shell or bomb wound to the forehead on 24 September 1915. He died of his wounds at sea on board Glenart Castle, just off Gallipoli the next day. He was buried at sea by Chaplain Rev. Barker.
His brother, 1527 Pte Joseph Cyrus Eldridge 3rd Battalion AIF, had died of wounds of Gallipoli wounds in England on 3 June 1915, three months prior.
Their mother had passed away during 1913 and their father received their medals and entitlements.
