Nicholas was the 4th son of John & Mary Pill (Nee Mathews) of Portland Victoria, and brother to Clara, Lucy, William, Herbert, Stanley, Eva, Iima & Jacob & Grandson of Jacob & Marie Pill (nee Guy)
Nicholas was 20 years and 4 months of age when he enlistd in the Imperial Forces. His parents gave consent for him to enlist on the 3rd September 1917.
Nicholas was hospitlalised several times during his service in France. Discharged and returned back to Australia on the 8th November 1918.
Nicholas married Vera Laity on returning home from the was in 1924. They had a son, Robert in 1932 who passed away the same year. Vera passed away in 1935.
