Fallen District Soldiers

Sergeant-Major R Jerrett, who died of wounds, is a son of Mr Jerrett, farmer of Tyrendarra, and was well known in Portland and district. He was for some years a member of the Portland Naval Reserve, and afterwards joined the permanent Garrison Artillery at Queenscliff. He worked his way up in the military, and received promotion to Sydney on the instructional staff. From there he was transferred to Tasmania, and at the outbreak of war joined the First Australian Expeditionary Force at the rank of Sergeant-Major.
