Son of James Joseph Patrick Kearney and Ellen A. Kearney nee Bannon of Warragal, Victoria. Brother of Francis Patrick Kearney, Mary Kearney, Bridget Kearney and Augustine Kearney
Private John Nicholas Kearney, reported killed, was 20 years of age, and a member of E. Company, 7th Battalion. He was the youngest son of Mrs. E. Kearney, care of Railway Hotel, Footscray, and worked at Sunshmine Harvester Works before enlisting.
