Charles returned to the Winton district after the war, and in 1923 he acquired Bendemeer, which became his home for the remainder of his life. For a few years he used the property in connection with dealing operations, in association with Mr. Horsfall. In 1936 he bought the adjoining Roscommon selection of about 8,000 acres, near Dick's Creek Hotel from Mr. D. Cull.
On 24 April 1928 he married Miss Enid Ethel Rhodes, daughter of Mr James Rhodes, of Mount Campbell, at St. Patrick's Church in Winton. They had four daughters.
