Michael Harrold was born in Adelaide, South Australia. His religion was the church of England. He lived in Clifford Street, Torrensville, SA. His next of kin was his mother, Mrs Ellen Harrold. His job before the war was a tram conductor.[1] A tram conductor usually worked in the passenger section of the tram. They would collect the fares, issue tickets, answer questions about the route, fares and timetable.[2] Some base descriptions of him were that he was 5 foot 1.5inches, 140 pounds, medium complexion, blue eyes and had grey hair. He was enlisted on 17 January 1916. His rank was private, and he was part of the 43rd battalion. 

The battalion trained at the Morphettville Racecourse, the sandhills in Glenelg and Henley and a practice attack up Montifiore Hill. The battalion left Australia in June 1916, they briefly stopped in Egypt and then they went to England for more training in July 1916. They moved to the Western Front in December 1916.

For him he went to overseas to France on the 25.11.16. He went to the hospital sick on 26.1.17. On the 28.3.18 he was wounded in action. On the 11.4.18 he went to Birmingham war hospital because he had a shrapnel wound on his left arm. After he was transferred to Eng. Sx 1st Can: Gen hospital after his gunshot wound on his left arm. He returned to Australia on the 21.7.18 as a result of this gun shot wound on his left upper arm.
