Cliff was the eldest of six children of Joseph Jenner Wickerson (b1894 at Maroochy River in QLD) and Cynthia Annie Sheather (b1899 in Casino, NSW). Joseph - a Farmer - and Cynthia married in 1918 in Kunghur, NSW and settled in the Byron Bay region to raise their family. Joseph had enlisted briefly in WWI, and was a Farmer.

Cliff was a Labourer in Byron Bay NSW when he enlisted in 1941. He served as a Private (Service No:48377) with 41 Infantry Battalion before serving with the AIF (Private; Service No:NX69050), Cliff served in Palestine with 16 Training Battalion and 2nd/3rd Infantry Battalion (27 June 1941 - 11 December 1942). He was Discharged in March 1946. Father Joseph and Uncle Arthur, and numerous cousins also served in WWII.

In 1945 Cliff married Adelaide Lillian Tigell (b1921 at Peace Creek, Crows Nest on the Darling Downs in QLD). Cliff and Adelaide settled at Middle Pocket in Billinudgel in Northern NSW where Cliff was a Banan Grower. In the early 1950s Cliff and Adelaide moved to North Arm near Nambour QLD where Cliff was a Labourer. The family relocated to Yandina on the Sunshine Coast in the late 1950s, where Cliff worked as Labourer. Cliff died in 1975 and Adelaide in 1986.
