Edward Lewis Bronson was born in One Tree Hill, South Australia, and grew up Alberton. He attended Alberton Public School. Before the war Bronson worked as a labourer and he identified as being part of the Church of Christ.
On September 9, 1914, Edward enlisted in Melbourne and was taken on the Australian Imperial Force at the age of 20. His next of kin was his Wife, Mrs Doris Bronson, Fussell Place, Alberton, South Australia. He was assigned to the 10th Infantry Battalion and his rank was was Private. For the 10th Battalion, these included training camps on the arid plains of South Australia at Morphettville Racecourse.
In December 1914, Edward embarked embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT Themistocles on 7 December 1914. He fought at Gallipoli and on the Western Front
Bronson despite being wounded twice and suffering with tuberculousis survived the war and returned to Australia in March 1918, medically unfit. He disembark at Melbourne 10th May 1918. He returned to Adelaide and was discharged 2nd January 1919.
