DEATH OF REV. A. E. LAPTHORNE

Rev- Albert Ernest Lapthorne, who has died in Brisbane, saw service for the Methodist Church in many parts of Australia and in Fiji. He was president of the Queensland Methodist Conference in 1937.

Mr. Lapthorne enlisted in World War 1 as a combatant, and after some service overseas was appointed a chaplain. He was still on the chaplaincy list when World War II broke out, was called up in that capacity, and served at various camps until the end of the war. He afterwards was appointed Methodist chaplain to Brisbane hospitals. Born in Victoria 67 years ago, he made preparations for entering the service of the Methodist Church here. He came to Queensland in 1905 and was accepted as a candidate for the ministry here. He was appointed to Croydon before going to Navau, Figi. After several years there he came back to Australia and worked respectively at Cairns, Mount Perry, Longreach, Townsville, Darwin, East Brisbane, Wondai, before joining the military forces, and subsequently at Allora, Gympie (Surface Hill), Laidley, Townsville (Stokes Street), Nambour, Sandgate and Ithaca. Mrs. Lapthorne survives her husband.
