Alan William (Bill) WRIGHT
Alan enlisted on November 4, 1939 and embarked from Pyrmont for the Middle East in January 1940. He served in Palestine and Egypt before embarking for Greece on March 18, 1941. Soon after his arrival in Greece Alan was taken prisoner and later interned in Stalag VIIIB POW Camp, Lamsdorf, Silesia (now Lambowice in Poland). While a prisoner, Alan’s 16 year old brother Rex died in a tragic accident when struck by the Ulmarra bus in Fitzroy Street, Grafton. Another brother, Jack, served with the R.A.A.F. during World War Two.
