Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
John Alexander Cole was the son of Thomas and Rose Cole, of Mogriguy, New South Wales. Five of his brothers also enlisted in the AIF and embarked for overseas service during WW1.
‘Jack’ as he was known enlisted in July 1915 with his brothers Will and Tom. All three were assigned to the 18th Battalion and given consecutive regimental numbers.
Jack died of wounds in Belgium on 13 September 1916 only six weeks after his older brother, 2123 Pte. William Henry Cole was killed at Pozieres on 31 July 1916, aged 30.
The other brother, 2122 Private Thomas Cole was severely wounded during August 1916 and returned to Australia medically unfit during early 1917.
