3 Aug 1916: Transferred AIF WW1, Private, 23rd Infantry Battalion
3 May 1917: Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 3265, 23rd Infantry Battalion, Bullecourt (Second), Gun shot wound left shoulder. Line of Command: - 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, with a base at Grevillers outside of Bapaume - loaded onto No.3 Ambulance Train and admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Rouen. He stayed overnight in 2nd Convalescent Hospital, Rouen, returning to 1st AGH next day - 17 May, 1917 invalided to England per Hospital Ship Western Australian, to Grove Road Military Hospital, Richmond.
28 Mar 1918: Involvement AIF WW1, Private, 3265, 23rd Infantry Battalion, Return to the Catacombs for A and B Companies 24 March, 2022, C Company at Avenue Farm and D Company at Only Way. 28 March, 1918, D Company at Only Way experienced heavy shelling, causing casualties. William died in action that day.
