Enlistment Date and Place: Henry had originally enlisted on 25 April 1916, Bendigo, Vic., and was declared medically fit to serve subject to him having an operation for a hernia. After the surgery he then re-enlisted on 16 June 1917, Nathalia, Vic.

Embarkation Details: Unit embarked from Melbourne, Vic., on board HMAT A71 Nestor, on 21 November 1917. He and his brother Moritz Edward Forrest (B.2a.1b.2c) left on the same day and on the same ship. Also on the ship was Robert Hungerford Chapman (E.8.1a.8b).

Campaigns Served: After disembarking in Suez, Egypt, 15 December 1917, Henry was hospitalised until 23 December. Back in hospital until 30 December, before embarking on HMAT Kashgar for England, 9 January 1918. He arrived in Abbeville, France, 7 October 1918, had further time in hospital on 13 October with tonsillitis. On 17 October he rejoined his unit in the field, until 3 February 1919, when he was admitted to hospital with pleurisy and pneumonia, and transferred to the 20th Casualty Clearing Station, seriously ill, with lobar pneumonia on 4 February. He died there on 11 February 1919. Henry spent four months on the Western Front.
