Private Alan Edward Thomas (Service No:W21206) enlisted in the ACMF on 18 December 1941 with 5 Garrison Battalion (WA) VDC, and served with Australian Artillery Training Battalion and 32 Australian Infantry Training Battalion. Private Thomas served in Torokina, Bougainville and Rabaul with 61 Infantry Battalion (12 July 1945 - 14 February 1946), and was attached to 61st Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 25 June 1946.
Alan was born in Victoria Park, Fremantle, WA in 1923, eldest of three children of Charles Edward Thomas (b1899 in Perth, WA) and Cramlintyne (Caroline) Stephens (b1901 in Boulder, WA). Charles was a Printer in 1922 when he and Caroline married in Perth, where they settled and raised their family. Charles served in WWI and WWII, and worked as a Printer, Bread Carter, Tramways Employee and Labourer.
Alan was a Truck Driver's Assistant in Perth when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, he worked as a Labourer in Perth where, in 1948 he married Edna Anne Beeson (b1925 in Mingenew, WA). Alan and Edna settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Alan worked as a Plasterer and Concreter before moving to Mandurah in 1980, where he was a Grano Worker. Edna died in 2004 and Alan in 2007.
