Let us remember a Fallen soldier of The Great War memorialised at Sandgate Cemetery.

On the 31st December 1916, Sergeant Albert Charles Bray, 17th Battalion (Reg No-1628), labourer c/o Mrs. Stoom, Robert Street, Marrickville, New South Wales, Died of Wounds at the 7th Australian Field Ambulance, age 32. Type of wound not stated.

No Australian Red Cross Wounded and Missing File.

Born at Wickham, New South Wales on the 6th April 1884 to Frederick Thomas (died 21.3.1902, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 52) and Eliza Jane Bray nee Fairhall (died 1.9.1928, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 73, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-29. 36) of 12 and 13 Cleary Street, Hamilton, New South Wales, Albert enlisted on the 26th April 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A32 Themistocles on the 12th May 1915.

Admitted to hospital 8.11.1915 (jaundice, slight).

Mr. Bray’s name has been inscribed on the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, France.

Place of Association - Hamilton, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

Albert’s name has also been inscribed on the Hamilton (Gregson Park) War Memorial, Hamilton Municipal District Roll of Honor, Wickham Superior Public School Roll of Honour, Hamilton St. Peter's Anglican Church Honor Roll, Book of Gold and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

I have placed poppies at the memorialised gravesite of father Frederick Thomas Bray in remembrance of the service and supreme sacrifice of his son for God, King & Country. ANGLICAN 1-46. 20.
