KOKODA MEMORIAL WALKWAY CONCORD, SYDNEY
KOKODA MEMORIAL WALKWAY
CONCORD, SYDNEY
Recently my son John drove me to visit and take photos of the Kokoda memorial track which is situated at Concord hospital Sydney.
It is a beautiful setting, winding along paved tracks and at each village is a large plaque describing the history of each battle that took place.
The 3rd Battalion is mentioned on many of them, stating the part they and many other units played in the battle to save Australia.
The entrance starts with a large circle rose garden with a wall around it. On it has many plaques, lots from the 3rd Battalion men.
It also has a large barbecue and sports area, should any of you be in the area, it is a must to see!
Many groups of young fit people today walk the Kokoda track. One group of Sydney Swans AFL players couldn’t believe anyone could carry food, ammunition and guns and also fight an enemy there.
A film of Kokoda is now made and showing at all cinemas. In a few months time the film will be available on DVD and Video.
