He enlisted 1st May 1916 along with his brother Alexander Ogilvy Galloway [hence consecutive regimental numbers] and they embarked together from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A49 Seang Choon on 23 September 1916.

Age at embarkation 33.

Alexander survived the war and returned to Australia.

He was 34 and the son of John and Mary Edward Barrie Galloway, of Bidd, Port William, Wigtownshire, Scotland. 

John Galloway stated he was a 33 year old, single, Journalist but was working as an Orchardist while at Lefroy, Tasmania.

John Galloway was born at Kirriemuir, Forfarshire, Scotland in 1881.

He came to Australia when he was 32 years old & enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 1st May, 1916 as a 33 year old Journalist but working as an Orchidist while at Lefroy, Tasmania. His brother enlisted the same day.

Private John Galloway, Service number 2029, & his brother Alexander Ogilvy Galloway embarked from Melbourne & disembarked in England on 9th December, 1916.

On 10th December, 1916 Private Galloway was marched in to 10th Training Battalion Reinforcements at Durrington, Wiltshire.

He was admitted to Hospital on 11th January, 1917 but sadly died at 8.10 pm on 17th January, 1917 at Parkhouse Hospital, Tidworth near Salisbury, Wiltshire from Mumps & Cardiac Failure.

Private John Galloway's body was removed to Scotland where he was given a private funeral & buried in Springbank Cemetery, Aberdeen, Scotland with a private headstone.
