Private Norman Kenneth Eales (Service Nos: VX115031/V160336) initially served in the ACMF (2 March 1942 - 29 September 1942) as Private/Driver with 16 Coy AASC. He was 'in the field' in NSW when he transferred to the AIF and served in Buna, Finschaffen and Morotai (1943 - 1946). Private Eales was attached to 162 Australian General Transport Coy at Discharge on 5 August 1946. His father, Kenneth Eales and Uncle Garnet Eales DCM served in WWI and WWII, and cousin Ronald Eales served in WWII.

Norm was born in Hamilton, Victoria in 1923, to Kenneth (Ken) Samuel Eales (b1898 in Penshurst via Hamilton, Victoria) and Florence (Dolly) Fort (b1898 in Hamilton, Victoria). Ken worked as a Station Hand in Hamilton, where, in 1921 he and Dolly married. They settled in Hamilton where they raised their family and Ken worked as a Station Hand, Driver, Lineman and Public Servant.

Norm was a Flax Mill Employee in Hamilton when he enlisted in the Army  and, following his Discharge was a Railway Employee in Hamilton in 1946 when he married Margery Elaine Medlen (b1923 in Narracoote, South Australia). Norm and Margery settled in Hamilton where they raised their family and Norm was a Railway Employee and Meter Reader. Margery died in 2016 and Norm in 2021.
