Driver Sidney James Pilbeam (Service Nos:N77018/NX95503) initially served in the ACMF (23 July 1940 - 10 May 1941) as a Private attached to 4 Auxiliary Horse Transport (HT) Coy. On 25 April 1942 he enlisted in the AIF as a Driver with 2/103 Transport Coy, and was attached to Darwin Details Depot,  and 149 and 120 Australian General Transport (AGT) Depots. On 17 April 1946, Driver Pilbeam was attached to 2/109 Australian General Transport (AGT) Coy at Discharge. Brother Jimmy also served in the Army in WWII.

Sidney was born in Sydney, NSW in 1919, youngest of two children on John Patrick Pilbeam (b1888 in Sydney, NSW) and Francis (Queenie) Griffiths (b1896 in Sydney, NSW). John (a Driver) and Queenie (a Laundress) married in 1915 in Sydney, where they settled and raised their family and John worked as a Driver.

Sidney worked as a Laundryman and as a Storeman and Packer in Sydney where, in 1941, he married Phyllis Olive Linklater (b1919 in Sydney, NSW) - Phyllis was working in Sydney as a Laundress. Following his Discharge from the Army, Sidney and Phyllis settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Sidney was a Waterside Worker until his death in 1974. Phyllis died in 1988.
