Private Thomas Joseph Flynn (Service No:WX2827) enlisted in the Army on 20 May 1940 and was attached to 2/16th Infantry Battalion when he embarked from Fremantle for Palestine on 25 October 1940. Private Flynn embarked from the Middle East for the RTA on 13 March 1942 on board SS Laconia, transhipping at Bombay to continue the journey on the Duntroon. Private Flynn was Discharged on 3 May 1944 (Medically Unfit).
Tom was born in 1906 in Kalgoorlie WA, fourth of six children of Maurice Flynn (b1868 in Hartley, NSW) and Bridget Farrell (b1869 at King River, Victoria). Maurice (a Groom) and Bridget married in 1900 in Wangaratta, Victoria and moved to the Kalgoorlie/Boulder Goldfields in 1903. Maurice worked at Paringa and Hannans as a Miner and in 1916 was working at the Great Boulder Gold Mine when he was killed by a rock fall.
Tom worked as a Miner in Kalgoorlie and in 1929 was in Perth, WA when he married Rita Alice Quinn (b1913 in Perth, WA). Tom and Rita lived in Fremantle, where Tom was a Labourer before divorcing in 1939. Following his Discharge, Tom worked in Perth as a Labourer, and in 1950 remarried to Daisy Belle McFadden (nee Collett; b1911 in Perth, WA). Tom and Daisy settled in Perth where Tom worked as a Labourer, and Truck and Motor Driver. Tom died in 1982 and Daisy in 1989.
