Lieutenant Betty Robilliard Long (Service Nos:TX6435/T500) enlisted in the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) in Tasmania on 22 January 1943 and was attached to 41st Australian Camp Hospital on 10 February 1943. Lieutenant Long was attached to 2/4 Australian General Hospital when she emabarked from Brisbane on 21 May 1945 on board the Wanganella for service in Borneo - Morotai and Labuan - before embarking for Singapore in October 1945 on board the Manunda. Lieutenant Long embarked from Singapore for Melbourne on board the Cheshire on 8 November 1945 and her Appointment was Terminated on 30 January 1946.

Betty was an only child, born in Currie, King Island, Tasmania in 1919 to Clement Robilliard Long (b1876 in Hertfordshire, England) and Eva Elizabeth Huxley (b1892 in Devonport, Tasmania). Clement worked in England as a Bank Clerk and Insurance Agent before immigrating to Melbourne where, in 1905, he worked as a Labourer before moving to the Gippsland region. Clement worked in Bruthen and Cunninghame in the Gippsland region as a Billiard Marker and Gardener before moving to King Island where in 1917 he worked as a Clerk/Accountant. In 1918 Clement and Eva married in Currie, where they settled and Clement worked as an Accountant. From the 1930s they lived on mainland Tasmania - in George Town and Launceston - where Clement was a Shopkeeper.

Betty worked as a Nurse in Launceston before enlisting in the Army. In 1945 in Launceston, Tasmania Betty married Cliveden (Sandy) Edward Sandilands (b1920 in Boulder, WA) Sandy served in the AIF (Sergeant; Service No:VX39801) and had been a PoW. Betty and Sandy lived in Launceston until the mid 1950s when they moved to NSW and Sandy enlisted in the Army (Service No:6/592). Betty and Sandy lived in NSW and QLD, where Sandy was a Soldier before retiring in the mid 1970s and settling in Townsville, QLD where Sandy was a Teacher. Betty died in 2007 and Sandy in 2010.
