Aubrey was the third of seven children of John Crocker (born 1870 in Winkleigh, Tasmania) and Sarah Jane Mackay (born 1871 at The Oaks in Tasmania). John, a Coach Builder, and Sarah married in 1891 in Launceston Tasmania.

Aubrey, a Telegraph Messenger was just 19 years of age when he enlisted in the AIF in February 1916. He had served with the local 26th Light Horse for five years. Aubrey was a Private (Service No: 363) with the 40th Infantry Battalion and was WIA (Gassed)in France in 1918. He was Discharged in September 1919, and in 1922 married Edith Henrietta Kate Owen (born 1899 in Mersey, Tasmania) in 1922 in Melbourne, Victoria.

Aubrey and Edith settled in Deloraine, Tasmania where Aubrey worked briefly as a Commission Agent before Farming. In 1938 the family had moved to Launceston, Tasmania where Aubrey was a Tram Conductor.

In 1940 Aubrey enlisted in the ACMF (Service No: T262545) from June to July. Brother Victor Stanley Amiel served in WWII with the ACMF as a Signalman (Service No:  T34307) with Lines of Communication Signals (7 May 1942 - 25 June 1945). Son Harry Owen served with the RAAF as a Leading Aircraftman (Service No:88744) with 9 Stores Depot.

Aubrey died in Launceston, Tasmania in 1976 and Edith in 1983
