WW1

Details provided are taken from the book "Stealth Raiders - a few daring men in 1918" written by WO1 Darryl Kelly, published in 2004, refer to chapter 14 pages 89 to 94. Enlisted as Edward Elart, after deserting from service in the Royal Australian Navy. He landed at Gallipoli and served well, but wrote to his Commanding Officer advising of this error. Unfortunately, he went on a recon patrol and was killed when the patrol was re-entering the unit lines. He has been honoured in the Hall of Memorial at the Australian War Memorial by his correct name of Harry Hart. Rest in Peace, Lest we Forget

Biography contributed by Carol Foster

Enlisted and served as  Edward Elart. Document dated July 1915 states that his discription fitted Harry Oliver Hart who had deserted from the naval vessel H.M.A.S. Australia. Another document refers to his admitting that he was the same person. If he had not died of his wounds actions were being taken to arrest him for desertion.

Son of John William Hart and Mary Hart nee McDonald. Next of kin given as his brother as James Hart of 49 Northcote Road, Armadale, Victoria

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
