Private Bert Baden Hicks (Service No:WX5124) enlisted in the Australian Army on 23 July 1940 and served twelve months (February 1941 - February 1942) in the Middle East with 2nd Echelon. Private Hicks served with 2/13 Field Ambulance and 2 Australian General Hospital and was Discharged on 1 August 1943.

The youngest of eight children, Bert was born in 1900 in Fremantle WA to John Hicks (b1861 in Fremantle WA) and Elizabeth Mary Devereaux (b1871 in Guildford, WA). John (a WA Government Railways Worker) and Elizabeth married in 1887 in Guildford WA and settled in Fremantle where they raised their family and John worked for WAGR.

Bert worked as a Labourer in Fremantle WA and in 1928 married Irene Blanche Garth (b1907 in Fremantle, WA). Bert and Irene settled in Fremantle where Bert worked as a Labourer and, following his Discharge, as a Tramways Worker and Driver. Bert died in 1969 and Irene in 1996.
