George was the third of four children of Joseph Arthur Medson (b1862 in Melbourne, Victoria) and Charlotte Isabella Zelley (b1876 in Melbourne, Victoria). Joseph - a Wool Scourer - married Charlotte in 1897 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled to raise their family. Following Joseph's death in 1905, Charlotte remarried in 1907 and died on 16 June that year. On 24 June 1907, George and his siblings were admitted to St Vincent de Paul's Orphanage in Melbourne by their Stepfather Patrick Brown.

By 1927 George was in Geelong, Victoria working as a Labourer. He married Rosanna Ethel Conduit (b1901 in Ballarat, Victoria) in 1928 - Rosanna was a Textile Worker in Geelong. George and Rosanna settled in the Geelong region and George was a Dairyman when he enlisted in The Australian Army in August 1940. He was a Corporal (Service No:V5114) attached to 120 Australian General Transport when he was Discharged in October 1945. Brother-in-Law Cyril Lloyd (Private; Service No:VX23281) and Nephew John Edward McGrath (Private; Service No:VX14205) also served in WWII.

George and Rosanna remained in the Geelong region where George was a Dairy Farmer until the late 1950s when he became a PMG employee. Rosanna died in 1981 and George in 1995.
