Elder of two siblings (Edward and Mabel) who served in WWII, Private Edward Warner Nye (Service No:VX56290) enlisted in the AIF on 20 May 1941 and transferred to 2 Cavalry Division Training Squadron. Private Nye was attached to 39th Infantry Battaion on 16 March 1942 when he embarked with his Unit from Brisbane for Port Moresby on board the Taroona. Private Nye served with 39 Infantry Battalion in New Guinea, including the Kokoda Campaign, and on 16 August 1942 was WiA (GSW arm and leg). Private Nye emplaned from Port Moresby for Brisbane on 13 December 1942, and in July 1943 was transferred to 2/2 Battalion and later to 13th Australian Personnel Staging Camp (APSC). Private Nye served with 16 Australian Works Coy in Bougainville/Torokina (21 October 1944 - 25 November 1945), and was attached to 39 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 1 March 1946.

Ted was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1914, third of six children of Edward Pilgrim Nye (b1877 in Baddaginnie, Victoria) and Mabel Warner (b1884 in Melbourne, Victoria). Edward worked as a Labourer at Baddaginnie via Benalla, and was a Labourer in Pakenham when he and Mabel married in Melbourne in 1911. Edward and Mabel settled in Sunshine in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Edward worked as a Labourer and Moulder.

Ted worked in Sunshine and Pakenham as a Labourer, and in 1941 was an Orchard Labourer when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge in 1946, Ted settled in Pakenham where he was an Orchardist until the late 1960s. Ted then moved to Melbourne, where in 1971 he married Helen (b1920) - a Nurse. Ted and Helen settled in Melbourne, where Ted worked as a Cleaner and Helen as a Nurse, Ted died in 1981 and Helen died in 2011.
