Sergeant James Thomas Lahiff (Service No:WX29582) first enlisted in the ACMF (Corporal; Service No:7210) on 1 October 1941 and was attached to 11th Infantry Battalion when he enlisted with the AIF on 20 July 1942. Sergeant Lahiff served in Darwin (10 March 1943 - 12 February 1944 and 15 April 1944 - 25 November 1944) where he was WiA - GSW to his hip. He served in New Britain from 25 November 1944 to 29 December 1945 and was attached to 11th Infantry Battalion when he was Discharged on 11 January 1946.

Born in 1918 in Subiaco in Perth WA, James was the third of four children of John (Jack) Patrick Lahiff (b1872 at Toodyay,WA) and Mary Grace Hardy (b1882 in London, England). Jack (a Farmer) and Mary married in 1911 in Fremantle WA - Mary immigrated with her parents and siblings in 1893, arriving in Fremantle WA on board the Helena Mind. Jack and Mary settled in Toodyay WA where they raised their family and jack was a Farmer.

James worked as a Grocer's Assistant in Balcatta, Fremantle WA prior to his enlistment, and returned to that employment in Perth following his Discharge. James later worked as a Clerk in Perth WA where he died in 1978.
