Private Harold Bertie Thrupp (Service No:2712) enlisted in the AIF on 24 June 1915, and was attached to 9th Infantry Battalion on 16 August 1915 when he embarked with his Unit from Brisbane QLD for Suez on board HMAT A55 Kyarra. Private Thrupp (hospitalised in Heliopolis and Alexandria with Influenza and cardiac problems) embarked on 12 April 1916 on board HT Karoola from Suez for Brisbane, where he was Discharged on 13 June 1916. In WWII, he served with the ACMF as a Private (Service No:Q67087) attached to Northen Command Records Office (NCRO) from 3 March 1941 to 26 April 1941.

Bertie was born in Parkes, NSW in 1890, second of seven children of Alfred Thrupp (b1868 in Bendigo, Victoria) and his first wife Sarah Jane Doyle (b1865 in Burrowa, NSW). Alfred (a Labourer) and Sarah married in Parkes, NSW and by 1897 had moved their family to Surat QLD, where they raised their family and Alfred was a Labourer. Following Sarah's death in 1911, Alfred remarried in 1914 at Logan Village, QLD to Isabella Kate Jackson (b1881 in Redbank, QLD) - Isabella was a Fruiterer with one child. Alfred and Isabella lived at Clifton on the Darling Downs and Kilcoy, where Alfred worked as a Labourer and Council Overseer.

Bertie worked in Surat as a Clerk, and in his Attestation Papers (NAA; 1915) stated he was a Grazier. Following his Discharge, Bertie was at Yandina Station in Surat in 1917, when he married (in Sydney NSW) Dr Edith Emily Fox (b1884 in Kemsey, NSW) - Edith had started working in 1902 as a Teacher, and by 1912 was a Junior Medical Officer at Newington Asylum in Sydney. Bertie and Edith settled in Toogoolawah QLD, where Edith was a Medical Practitioner and Bertie gave his occupation in the Electoral Rolls as a 'Returned Soldier'. Following Edith's death in 1924, Bertie was working at Clifton on the Darling Downs in QLD as a Roller Driver in 1926 when he married his second wife, Ethel (Ettie) Grace Zellar (b1903 at Bony Mountains, Southern Downs, QLD) - Ettie was working as a Waitress at the Club Hotel in Clifton. Bertie and Ettie lived in the Darling Downs Region, in Toowoomba and Ipsich, where Bertie was a Roller Driver and Main Roads Inspector. In the 1940s they settled in Brisbane, where Bertie worked as a Supervisor. Bertie died in 1961 and Ettie in 1995.
