Son of Robert Chambers and Katherine Chambers nee McGrath of 59 Brighton Street, Richmond, Victoria.
Brother of Sydney Rupert Chambers who returned to Australia on 7 February 1919 having served with the 2nd Motor Transport Company, Catherine Ada Chambers, Dora Elizabeth Chambers, Robert Edward Chambers, Alfred Ernest Chambers and William Nelson Chambers who was killed in action on 2 June 1915 while serving with the 6th Battalion and was buried in the Shrapnel Gully Cemetery.
