Son of James Urand and Sophia Urand nee Jenke of Burke Road, Camberwell, Victoria.
30 August 15 - enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, with the 4th Light Horse Regiment and with the rank of Private
29 January 1919 - promoted to Lance Corporal
15 June 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Essex disembarking on 25 July 1919

16 September 1919 - discharged at the 3rd Military District
During 1924c Richard married Myrtle Irene Alway in Victoria
