He married Ethel Louisa TURBIT (nee GREEN) in Sydney in 1912
Biography
"...11373 Gunner Joseph Bonaventure McDuff, 1st (later 2nd) Field Artillery Brigade of Parramatta, NSW. A labourer prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard the RMS Osterley on 15 January 1916. He was killed in action near Caestre, France on 29 April 1918, aged 29. He is buried in Le Peuplier Military Cemetery Caestre, France." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)

Joseph Bonaventure McDUFF (Service Number 11373) was born about July 1889 at Deniliquin . He was a fettler for the NSW Railways. He enlisted at Warwick Farm on 31st August 1915/ He gave his wife Ethel as his next of kin.
He was allotted to the 1st Field Artillery Brigade. McDuff embarked RMS ‘Osterley’ at Sydney on 15th January 1916. When he reached Cairo in February 1916, he was re-assigned to the 1st Divisional Artillery Column and then taken in the strength of the 21st Howitzer Brigade and posted to Headquarters at Tel-el-Kebir. At the end of March, he embarked at Alexandria for passage through Marseilles to join the British Expeditionary Force in France. He joined the Base Depot at Etaples and was once again made part of the 1st Divisional Artillery Column and then transferred to the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade. He was posted to the 102nd Battery by June 1916.
In August he was hospitalised with Rheumatism, though he had only a few days absence from his unit at the Anzac Rest Station.
In May 1917 he was again hospitalised, this time with herpes zester. In August he had leave in England and after return to duty in September was again sick, this time with myalgia. This required transfer to the Divisional Rest Station, No. 1 Convalescent Depot at Boulogne and then No. 10 Convalescent Depot at Ecault. It was November 1917 before he was well enough to re-join his unit.
He was killed in action on 29th April 1918.
He was buried at Staples Caestre Rue, map reference 1/40,000 27 SE. W.7.a.29. Rev T Webb attached to the 2nd Field Artillery Brigage. officiated.
