George Robert PRITCHARD
From Faith Threlfall, Australia and NZ in WWI
George Robert PRITCHARD (2663) was a 23 year old Club steward when he enlisted in Brisbane (Qld) on 21 May 1915. He listed as his next of kin, his Mother, Mrs Amy Elizabeth Pritchard, 15 McConnell Street off Boundry Street, Spring Hill, Brisbane, Queensland. He embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on 16 August 1915 as a member of the 9th Battalion, 8th Reinforcement. George joined his unit on 18 November 1915 at Lemnos, an island of Greece. At the end of February 1916, he was transferred to 49 Battalion and in June he was headed for France. During this time in France he was promoted firstly to Corporal and later to Sergeant. He was wounded in action in June 1917 and spent time recuperating in England. He returned to the Front and was wounded in action a second time. He returned to Australia 23 June 1919. Photo (2) from Discovering Anzacs site.
