William was born in February 1896 in Wasleys, South Australia. He was a motor mechanic before enlisting in September 1915 making him 19 and 8 months old. William had no wife and children when he enlisted. He was 5 feet and 8 ½ inches tall and weighed 150lbs
He enlisted in September 1915. He embarked from Australia in November 1915 on the H.J Eboe.
William went to the hospital in France because of problems with his feet and spent the first half of 1917 in hospital. Otherwise he served out the war with the 6th Field Artillery Brigade. He returned to Australia on the Sardinia in April 1919.
No details are known of his later life.
