Sapper Kenneth Leslie Jackman (Service Nos:T1461/TX13083) initially enlisted in the ACMF in Tasmania on 2 March 1942 - Trade Group Carpenter. Sapper Jackman was attached to 12th Field Coy RAE in Oatley, New South Wales when he transferred to the AIF on 22 February 1943. Sapper Jackman served in New Guinea (Port Moresby, Buna; 30 July 1943 - 6 June 1944) and was attached to 12th Field Coy RAE at Discharge on 2 September 1944 - Medically Unfit.
Ken was born in Hobart, Tasmania in 1923, eldest of six children of Townley (Jacka) James Jackman (b1898 in Wellington, New Zealand) and Amelia (Amy) Lucy Bradley (b1902 at Oyster Cove, Kingbury, Tasmania). Jacka, an Orchardist, served in WWI (Private; Service No:1070) and he and Amy married in 1923 in Hobart. They lived in Hobart - Kingston, Blackman's Bay and Moonah - where they raised their family.
Ken worked in Blackman's Bay as a Carpenter prior to enlisting in the Army in 1942, and following his Discharge settled at Kingston Beach, where he was working as a Carpenter in 1950 when he married Una Margaret Mayne (b1924 in Colebrook, Tasmania) - Una was working at Kingston Beach as a Typist/Stenographer. Ken died in 1958 and Una, who later remarried, died in 2006.
