Biography contributed by Evan Evans

Frank Mahieu and Clercie Declercq,

Paid tribute yesterday to Pte. JAMES FLETCHER ELLIS who was killed in action 20 September 1917 in the Battle of the Menin Road while serving with the 18th Bn. Australian Infantry. This tribute done with my friend Anthony (Clercie Declercq) who adopted a tree dedicated to Pte. Ellis in the Wood of Peace. With a usual ceremony we honoured this fallen soldier.

We also stopped by at the area (Anzac) where James was killed by a shell that hit him in the head, the area where he was buried first. James Ellis was a hotel manager at Sydney before enlisting. Rest in Peace private James Ellis. Not Forgotten.
