Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Walter Macintosh King was the third son of John Gardiner King and Emily King, of Traralgon, Victoria. Before enlistment he was employed as a plumber and gas fitter in Traralgon. It was noted in the local paper "He was a manly, well-conducted lad, and esteemed by all his young friends. He was one of the foremost young people attached to the Methodist Church."
His elder brother, John, had served in the Boer War.
His younger brother, 847 Pte. Edward James King 29th Battalion AIF later died of wounds in France on 29 November 1916, aged 19.
Private King had been at the Anzac front for several weeks before he died in the daily close quarters fighting with the Turks. He was a member of the 5th Reinforcements and leaving Melbourne in April 1915, was not very long in the training camp in Egypt before being sent to the firing line.
Walter and his brother Edward are listed on the Traralgon State School Honour Roll.
