OBITUARY.

MR. John William Matthews.

Deep regret was expressed on Saturday last when it was learned that Mr. John William Matthews of Caves Road, Busselton, had passed away.Deceased, who had been in indifferent health for some months, continued with his duties until about three weeks ago, when he was forced to relinquish and take to his bed. His condition became serious, however, and death took place on Saturday morning.

Born at Leicester (England) 46 years ago, the late Mr. Matthews was the only son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Matthews of "Ratcliffe on the Wreake,' Leicestershire, England.

Coming to Western Australia as a young man, he settled in Busselton about twenty-two years ago. Later he engaged in the timber industry at Kirup for a while, after which he returned to Busselton and built a home for his wife and himself. During the Great War he joined the A.I.F. as a member of the 44th. Battalion. Of a quiet and unassuming disposition, deceased was much respected by all with whom he came in contact.
