Private Joseph Anthony Pye (Service Nos:V56037/VX145394) initially served in the ACMF (16 December 1941 - 16 February 1944) - graded Signaller. Private Pye served with 23/21 Battalion and Signals Training Battalion, and was 'in the field' in Darwin, NT attached to North Australian Observer Unit (15 September 1942 - 11 January 1945) when he enlisted in the AIF. Private Pye served in Borneo (9 June 1945 - 16 January 1946) with 2 Artillery Signals, 2/6 Field Regiment and 2/33 Infantry Battalion. Gunner Pye was attached to 2 Artillery Signals TP at Discharge on 22 July 1946.

Born in Yambuck, Victoria in 1917, Joe was eldest of six children of Timothy (Dusty) William Pye (b1892 in Bessiebelle via Port Fairy, Victoria) and Catherine (Kate) Mary Cain (b1896 in Yambuck, Victoria). Dusty (a Labourer) and Kate married in 1916 at Port Fairy and lived briefly in Yambuck before settling in Bessiebelle, where they raised their family and Dusty was a Labourer.

Joe worked in Bessiebelle as a Labourer and Mail Contractor before enlisting in the Army in 1941. Following his Discharge, Joe returned to Bessiebelle, where he worked as a Labourer until the early 1950's when he move to Melbourne. Joe was a Labourer in Melbourne when he died in 1956.
