Born Bannockburn, Scotland (County of Stirling), immigrated to Australia from Scotland at age 5.
Served previously - 1year 58days in the ANGLO BOER WAR, South Africa, with the 5th QIB (Queensland Imperial Bushmen - 5th Contingent).
In 1915, joined the “Dungarees” recruiting march in Toowoomba and marched 150miles to Brisbane, picking up volunteers en route, enlisting with the 25th Battalion (1 to 8 Reinforcements / 9th Battalion (Infantry) - 3rd Brigade (”C” Company)).
Saw service in Egypt with 25th Battalion and in France with 9th Battalion.
Youngest son of Robert and Mary Jeffrey of Toowoomba, Queensland.
Survived by his wife Annie and two sons, Robert and William (William born in 1916, after his death).
