Biography

Born in Gawler, he was living with his mother in Nuriootpa working as a labourer at the time of his enlistment.

Killed sometime between the 20th - 21st of September, 1917, the 10th Battalion during this time was involved in the battle of Menin Road near Polygon Wood. It is unknown what killed Private Waters and his Red Cross file sheds no light on this either. However, enemy artillery during the battle was quite active and this is one possible cause for his death as there are no reports of his body been found or buried. Another is that he could heve been shot and killed by the enemy and his body never found possibly destroyed further by artillery.

As a result he is memorialised on the Menin Gate in Ypres.

Awarded:

British War Medal: 54716

Victory Medal: 53876

Memorial Plaque: 333457
