"LIEUT. WILL. DENOON.
Lieut. Will Denoon, who gained the Military Cross in, the recent fighting in France, is being invalided home, and will leave England this month. Old Cootamundra friends will be glad to welcome him back." - from the Cootamundra Herald 03 Oct 1916 (nla.gov.au)
"OBITUARY. WILLIAM DENOON.
Last night the death occurred, suddenly, of Lieutenant Will. Denoon, M.C., who, after the war, had a fall from a window, and hurt his back. This was about two years ago, and poor Will had been invalided ever since, at the Rose Bay Hospital, where he had been splendidly treated. Deceased is a native of Cootamundra. His father, the late William Denoon, kept the Club hotel, and was one of the first bunch of aldermen elected. He died here. Mrs. Denoon and family have been living at Stanmore for the past fourteen years. The body, is being brought to Cootamundra to-morrow morning, for interment in the Presbyterian cemetery. "FOUND HIS HEART. DIGGER'S FATE. Won Military Cross
'This is where a man's heart ought to be,' said William Denoon, holding a revolver to hit chest. There was an explosion - The death of Denoon, who was formerly a lieutenant in the A.I.F., and the holder of a Military Cross, was inquired into by the City Coroner (Mr. Jamieson) to-day. Cyril Charles Warboys, who was carried into court, stated that he was a flying officer. He described how he had been showing deceased his service revolver, when the tragedy occurred. Witness expressed the opinion that it was a deliberate act. Deceased had, at all times seemed quite normal. John Denoon, a brother, stated that about four years ago, deceased fell from a window at Coolamon, and injured his spine. He never seemed free from pain, and once said, "This won't last forever."
