Walter Morris Felix GAMBLE was born i Edinburgh, Scotland in 1896 and travelled to Australia with his family. His father, Dr. Maurice Frederick Horsley Gamble worked in the Victorian mental health area and practiced at the Sunbury and Kew Asylums.

Walter attended Wesley College, Melbourne and was part of the winning rowing crew of the Head of the River on 9/5/1915.

On the next day, 10/5/1915 Walter enlisted in the AIF and was allocated to the 7th Battalion.

He left Australia with this Battalion on 16/7/1915 and served on Gallipoli until the evacuation.

Back in Egypt he was promoted to L/Corp and then to Corporal, and transferred to the 59th Battalion.

In France he was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to the 15th LTM unit.

Walter was commissioned on 9/8/1916 and remained with this unit until late 1917. He was  awarded the MC for good works during this time. He applied for, and was granted a commission in the Indian Army. He was discharged fro the AIF on 12/2/1918 and travelled to India where he was allotted to the 91st Punjabi Regiment based at Poona, India.

Walter served with the Indian Army until 1934 when he returned to Australia. At the outbreak of WW2 he rejoined his Regiment and served until 1946 when he retired with the rank of L/Colonel.He was awarded the OBE for his WW2 work.

On his return to Australia Walter lived in Mornington, Victoria and later at Sale.

Walter died on 26/12/1955 at the Sale Hospital.
