Beaudesert Times: 27/9/1918: “Roll of Honour: Burgess:- In loving memory of Private Edward Burgess, killed in Action in France, 5th October 1917. ‘Tis a year now passed since dear Edward, Far away from his homeland fought and fell, But we still had him dear in our memory, And think what a hero he died. Inserted by his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Toney senr, and his aunt, Mrs VC Burgess.”
Beaudesert Times: 4/10/1918: “Roll of Honour: Burgess:- Killed in action France, 5th October 1917, Private Edward Burgess, second son of Mr and Mrs AC Burgess. Aged 21 years and 5 months. Though nothing can our loss replace, A dear one taken from our side, Yet in our sorrow we rejoice, To think ‘tis nobly that he died. Life’s highest mission he fulfilled, And bravely answered duty’s call, To fight for liberty and right, And battle for oppression fall.”
