Private Herbert Leslie Dunstan

Died on this date - 10th April........Private Herbert Leslie Dunstan was born at Donald, near Mildura, Victoria in 1887. He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 25th March, 1916 as a 28 year old, single Contractor (Farmer).
Private Dunstan arrived in England on 10th November, 1916 for further training then was sent to France. He joined 21st Battalion at the Front on 17th January, 1917.

Private Dunstan was sent to Hospital on 20th January, 1917 with Influenza & returned to his Battalion on 31st January, 1917.
Private Dunstan was wounded in action in France on 12th February, 1917 with shrapnel wounds to right leg & left foot. He was invalided to England admitted to Military Hospital, Dover, Kent, England on 16th March, 1917 seriously ill after gunshot wounds to left foot (amputated) & right leg.

Private Herbert Leslie Dunstan died at 4.45 am on 10th April, 1917 & was buried in St. James Churchyard Cemetery, Dover, Kent, England where 7 other Australian WW1 Soldiers are buried.

"...5588 Private Herbert Leslie Dunstan, contractor, of Donald, Victoria. He enlisted in the 21st Battalion on 25 March 1916 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Shropshire on 25 September 1916. He was taken on strength of the 21st Battalion on the Western Front in France on 17 January 1917. Pte Dunstan was wounded in action on 12 February 1917 and evacuated initially to Calais and then to the Military Hospital, Dover, England, where he died of these wounds on 10 April 1917.
