Laurie was the youngest of five children of Aubrey William Bell (b1881 in Perth WA) and Annie Elizabeth Kate Pearce (b1883 in Adelaide, South Australia). Aubrey (a Clerk with WA Department of Railways) and Annie married in 1905 in Perth, WA where they settled and raised their family. Aubrey was a Civil Servant, working for the Department of the Minister for Mines and Railways.
Laurie was a Civil Servant (Clerk) in 1941 when he married Christina Flett (b1918 in Melbourne, Victoria). He enlisted in the ACMF that year and served with 11 Battalion and 10th Light Horse Regiment (Private, Sergeant; Service No:W7605). He was Discharged on 30 August 1942 to enlist the next day in the AIF. Laurie served as a Sergeant (Service No:WX30972) with 3 AUstralian Division Signals in New Guinea and Bougainville (8 September 1944 to 24 August 1945) and was Discharged in February 1946.
Laurie and Christina lived in Perth WA and Laurie worked as a Clerk. He died in 1999.
