Frank Whitington was born in Willunga and was a single man aged 18 years when he enlisted in Adelaide on 09 August 1915.

He embarked on 27 October 1915 with the 12th/10th Infantry Battalion Reinforcements, but was transferred to 50th Battallion on 26 February 1916. Frank finally arrived in France via Egypt on 12 June 1916 and was promoted to Lance Corporal in December the same year.  In January 1917, he suffered a hernia injury and required hospital treatment. 

On 18 April 1919, Frank married Janet Robertson in Edinburgh's St Giles, All Saints Church. They both returned to Ausralia on 20 August 1919. Frank lived in Kings Park where he died on 6 November 1983, aged 85 years. Frank's brother William also served during the War.
