Norman first embarked on HMAT Orsova A67. Norman's father, Albert Thomas Holden (/explore/people/174205) (Chaplain) also embarked on the same ship.

"...38037 Gunner Norman Gladstone Holden, 11th Field Artillery Brigade. A student from Dunkeld, Vic, Gnr Holden embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Port Sydney (A15) on 9 November 1917.
